Inside the scope being studied

  • Medically stable patient
  • Non-emergency situation
  • Patient already seeking specialist evaluation
  • Patient considering private care
  • Patient able to travel
  • The patient understands that care happens outside Québec
  • The patient accepts financial responsibility
  • There is enough time to plan treatment and return
  • The treating institution agrees that travel is appropriate

Outside the project scope

  • Active emergency
  • Suspected stroke
  • Suspected heart attack
  • Severe acute respiratory distress
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Sepsis
  • Unstable patient
  • Any situation requiring immediate local emergency care

Someone who cannot carry the cost should not be encouraged to take on debt. No financial aid exists today. An access fund is proposed for later, subject to law and tax.
